List of athletes who competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympic games : ウィキペディア英語版 | List of athletes who competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympic games Below is a list of athletes who competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympics, as of the end of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in February, 2014. According to Bill Mallon, an Olympic historian, 128 athletes have competed in both the Summer Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games, as of January 2014. The tradition of competing in both games started in 1924, due to the inclusion of figure skating in the first winter games in 1924. While the previous games hosted figure skating in the summer games, the creation of the first winter games allowed for many athletes of the era to compete in both sets of games.〔 Thus, several figure skaters from that era performed in both sets of games in the same discipline, including Gillis Grafström, Svea Norén, Theresa Weld, and Ethel Muckelt. Besides figure skating, the most-occurring combinations amongst these athletes is bobsledding and athletics, followed by cycling and speed skating. Other events competed in by Summer and Winter Olympians include fencing, track and field, sailing, ski jumping, and equestrian events. Only five of the 128 athletes won medals in either the Summer or Winter Olympics.〔〔 Eddie Eagan was the only athlete to win gold medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics.〔〔 Some of the Olympians competed in both sets of games over a span of different decades. The 2014 Winter Olympic Games included numerous bobsled contenders who competed in previous Olympic games as contenders in track and field and cycling.〔 ==Athletes who competed in both Summer and Winter Olympics==
